Otto the Dachshund in london
Dog photography session in Notting Hill
Otto is nine months old, brindle, long haired, and has a side-eye that says he’s seen everything twice. His owners came from outside London to meet me in Notting Hill, a neighbourhood full of quiet mews and just the right amount of city grit. After our pre-session consultation call and I had learnt about Otto’s personality, it felt like the perfect fit for him.
a morning stroll around notting hill
Otto’s mum had asked for a mix of light and dark portraits, wider shots and close-ups, with focus on his side eye and his subtle brindle markings.Â
We started early (as always) in a tucked-away mews so Otto could settle in without too much noise or distraction, and could sass him out to see what he was comfortable with. We had zero expectations. At his age, attention spans are short and unpredictable, so we kept the session loose and flexible. We wandered through Notting Hill’s streets, following what worked for Otto rather than trying to force any poses. And I must say that he did surprise us all!
the perfect london corners for dog photography
Notting Hill’s mix of urban textures and romantic details gave us a subtle but striking backdrop that complemented Otto’s personality and presence. The contrast of soft light and shadows, the play of architecture, and quiet corners all helped create dog portraits that feel both intimate and very of this city.
the end of otto's portrait session
By the end of the session Otto was a total star and, like all of us, a little exhausted! The best part of meeting so early in the morning for a dog photography session is, if you ask me, heading to a nice dog-friendly cafe afterwards, to enjoy a well-deserved croissant while our model snoozes beside us.
